Chandrika delved into the topic of Time Series in MongoDB, exploring its significance and various aspects. She began with an introduction to MongoDB's Time Series Collection, a specialized feature introduced in MongoDB 5.0.
During the webinar, Chandrika highlighted the benefits of using Time Series Collections, including efficient space and data management, as well as improved performance.
Chandrika then walked the audience through the creation of a Time Series Collection and demonstrated the insertion of documents into the collection. She discussed the concept of granularity, which determines the duration of each interval within the collection, and explained how to change the granularity parameter.
Furthermore, she covered topics like materialized views on top of time series data, clustered indexes for improved query performance, and sharding a time series collection for scalability.
Throughout the webinar, Chandrika emphasized best practices for optimizing time series collections, such as batching documents by multiple measurements and optimizing compression by omitting empty fields and rounding numeric data.
The session concluded with a discussion on the limitations of time series collections, including the absence of certain features like change streams, field-level encryption, and schema validation rules.
